An Anniversary 70 Years In The Making

Mel and Barbara Ballard will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on February 18. In 1946, Barbara awaited her sweetheart’s return as Mel served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Their plan was to marry as soon as Mel could be granted a leave, which was finally given in February. They married, and shortly after the honeymoon Mel contracted the chicken pox, blissfully extending his leave two extra weeks. With 70 years of life together, they cultivated a profound love, respect and need for one another. They are cherished by their four children, 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
