Some seek to socialize and enjoy the ambiance of the Cliff Dining Pub’s patio for eating alfresco and enjoying stunning views and great company. Others dream of creating their own backyard oasis as the Shemwell family did with the help of Summerhays Landscape. Either way, summer is here, and it’s time to get outside and enjoy!
Cliff Dining Pub
This local eatery offers pleasant patio dining in addition to its cool, contemporary interior. The patio has a capacity of 100 people and has played host to proposals, baby showers and even a wedding. With industrial heaters to take away the chill on cool nights, as well as shades for blazing days, the pub’s patio offers stunning sunset views.
“We were the editor’s pick for Best Sushi/Sunset/Cocktail Combo by “City Weekly” magazine for 2017,” says co-owner Nikki MacKay, who also noted it’s the perfect venue for watching the Draper Days fireworks. “Last year we had a great patio party to cap Draper Days that included our resident DJ E-Flexx adding to the festivities,” she says.

The Shemwell Family’s Backyard Oasis
The Shemwells redesigned their backyard in 2008 with help from Dean Anesi of The Urban Garden Company and a pool from Omega Pools. But last year called for redoing an area that had become too shady for the original plants. They used The Urban Garden Company again for the design and hired Summerhays Landscape to carry it out.
“We had heard about the quality of Summerhays,” Kim Shemwell says. “In addition to Ryan’s solid reputation, we appreciated his reasonable pricing. The project turned out so well, we asked his team to help us with a drainage issue and new plantings around the yard.”
The family’s backyard has become their summer living space. They advise anyone considering a landscape project to have a comprehensive plan for the ability to complete it in stages over time.
